When you’re a sports icon, people will shell out all kinds of dough for any number of weird things. Those things probably get even weirder if you’re a sports icon of the 1980s. And they probably get weirder still we’re you’re the Canadian-born icon of the Canadian game.
I speak, of course, of Brantford, Ontario’s own Wayne Gretzky. Take the photo above, for instance, which you can purchase from the Old Strathcona Antique Mall in Edmonton, where The Great One is more or less celebrated as a deity. This piece of art, a spectacular specimen of 1980s athlete, is on sale for only $42. And it’s framed!
Which brings us to our examination of totally useless Wayne Gretzky collectibles on the market.
